Phosphatidylserine – Booster for Memory

-

I am amazed at the very clear effect of phosphatidylserine (PS) on memory and mental abilities in aging people, as demonstrated in the following YouTube video. I have looked up the studies and can therefore confirm the content of the video and will be adding PS to my memory supplement intake. Below is my list of my memory supplements

my personal interest in memory problems

my beginning cognitive impairment 2 years ago

I have been suffering from neuroborreliosis for about 2 years. This popped up as a secondary disease after a mild cold caused by Covid 2023.

The stupid virus is actually quite immunosuppressive and latent infections or tumors can arise as a result. My mother also developed Lyme disease after Covid (vaccination) and a fish tapeworm became “aggressive” – I still have to write about that because it was a really exciting medical history spanning years and with a lot of suffering!

One month after Covid, I could hardly speak anymore and basically had only limited ability to work and such significant memory problems that my ability to work was sometimes barely there.

It was helpful that I always write down everything that patients tell me almost word for word because, as a classical homeopath, I have been trained so that the patient’s language and words help to better understand the health problems because they can give you an insight into the internal representation of the problems.

Lenna was able to test that it was due to the Borrelia and not the virus itself, which is why there was no response to the IVM but quite good response to the anti-Lyme herbs.

Through neuromodulation, high doses of Buhner anti-Lyme herbs and a whole range of nutritional supplements, I have regained about 70% of my mental abilities – and of course I am constantly researching how I can improve my memory.

Sport and exercise are the most important

My most underestimated and least used memory enhancer is actually exercise and sport, which boost the immediate production of the brain-derived neurotropic factor.

You can see this very clearly in Chapter 2 of the following book:

The Brain's Way of Healing: Stories of Remarkable Recoveries and Discoveries
  • Explores the advances in the discovery of neuroplasticity, showing that the brain has its own unique way of healing....

Actually, I was practically deprived of every opportunity to do sport about 3 years ago when I ran my hip into a stupid protruding obstacle, which led to persistent hip pain and a severe limp; I could hardly walk more than 150m! The MRI showed congenital hip dysplasia, which is now starting to cause symptoms.

Thank God the stem cells have given me a fairly good feeling again, but I haven’t really tested my hip with any more strenuous exercise.

In any case, I’m just extremely lazy physically, downright lazy – but my brain is always rattling!

Content of this Youtube video

  • Clinical study on phosphatidylserine (PS): A study by researchers from the NIH, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Italians showed that taking 300 mg of PS for 3 months improved brain function in aging individuals and made their brain function up to 12 years younger (2013 study)
  • Improved brain energy production: PS increases brain energy production

here in the PET you can see a greatly improved glucose utilization after 3 weeks of PS

    • Energy boost in the elderly: PET scan images showed a significant increase in energy production in the brain after 3 weeks of PS supplementation in an elderly woman. Really amazing!! see the screencut above. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the entire original study by Klinkmann, perhaps someone can download it for me.
    • several randomized, double-blind, controlled studies show improvement in memory function, arithmetic ability in mildly cognitively impaired older people…: Study 2024
    • Improvement in depression: AltmedRev 1991
    • quite strong effect in Alzheimer’s disease: control group worsened, while PS group remained the same or only slightly worsened!!! (2015 study)
    • Role of PS in cell membranes: PS is crucial for the construction and maintenance of cell membranes, which are vital for various cellular functions, including energy production and nutrient transport.
    • Importance of membranes for brain function: PS is concentrated in nerve cell membranes, especially at synapses, where it regulates the release of neurotransmitters and the electrical activity of the brain facilitated. Review 2024
    • Regenerative effects of PS: Animal studies suggest that PS can stimulate the production of nerve growth factors, thus supporting the repair and maintenance of nerve cells. 2015 Rat Study – Hippocampus normal in treated group compared to Alzheimer’s model group
    • Memory and Communication: PS is essential for effective communication between nerve cells, which is critical for memory and cognitive function.
    • PS and Mitochondria: PS supports mitochondrial function in nerve cells and increases energy production and efficiency, which is critical for maintaining brain health.
    • Practical Recommendations: Typical dose is 300 mg per day (2 capsules) for general brain health, with 600 mg (4 capsules) recommended.

So I will now add PS to my (almost) daily NEW intake for memory:

  • 5mg lithium orotate
  • 4 capsules of fish oil
  • 10 capsules of gingko
  • 600mg phosphatidylserine
  • Multi-B
  • 24mg spermidine
  • 1000mg niacin
